Gary Stavaas

Gary M. Stavaas, 56, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in West Fargo, North Dakota. He was born October 18, 1950, in Fergus Falls, the son of Orvin and Ila (Larson) Stavaas. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1969. After high school he served two years in the U.S. Army based in Fairbanks, Alaska, and then worked for many years as a construction worker and carpenter. Gary was a longtime member of the Fergus Falls Elks. In earlier years he pitched in the city softball league. He had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had an artistic talent, and enjoyed woodworking and drawing. Preceding him in death were his grandparents; his father, Orvin; a sister, Carol; and an infant brother, Jerry. Survivors include his mother, Ila Stavaas, of Fergus Falls; daughters: Jackie (John) Meemken of Inwood, Iowa, and Jennifer (David) Sjoberg, of Isanti, Minnesota; one grandson, Nicholas Meemken; a brother, Richard Stavaas of Fergus Falls; a sister, Sherry (Norton) Tucker of Bemidji; five nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or the donor?s choice.
