Gary M. Rheault, 72, of Fergus Falls, died peacefully at home Tuesday, August 22, 2023, after a short battle with thyroid cancer.
Gary Martin Rheault was born September 17, 1950, in Moorhead to Adrien and Jean (Sauvageau) Rheault. He attended school at St. Benedicts Catholic School in Wild Rice, ND.
Gary helped his father on the farm from the age of eight until he started pumping gas in Horace at the age of sixteen. In 1967 he began employment with Valley Imports for 17 years. While at Valley Imports, he attended Automotive Mechanic Vocational School in Illinois. In 1984 he began working in Fergus Falls for Fergus Motors and from 1993 - 1995 he was a service writer for Quality Toyota. He then was employed at NAPA Auto Parts for eight years. In 2003 he started working at Diversion Auto as a service writer, then became a manager and later an owner until 2010 when it closed. He then worked at Pioneer Home the last few years transporting patients until he retired in 2013. During his retirement years Gary helped Sean salvage vehicles and developed the Maplewood RV and Campground with his son Chad. He enjoyed his time maintaining the RV campground that was located on his land with his brother-in-law Mark.
On May 22, 2004, Gary married Lynette Biittner in Fergus Falls after being together for ten years.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Maine Township where he served on the church board and was an usher. During his later years he was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls.
Gary enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, deer hunting and visiting with people. He never walked out of Fleet Farm without running into three or four people that he knew. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Adrien and Jean; daughter, Christina Steinbach; son, Scott Rheault; sister, Dorothy Dunwoody; brother, Jim Rheault; father and mother-in-law; Denis and Lorraine (Maneman) Biittner; infant brother-in-law, Terry Biittner; sister-in-law, Cheryl Polman-Biittner and numerous aunts and uncles.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lynette Biittner of Fergus Falls; daughter, Angie (Jerry) Moen; sons, Chad (Christine Muthaura) Rheault of Newport and Sean (Kori) Biittner-Rheault of Fergus Falls; son-in-law, Steve Steinbach of Elizabeth; step-daughter, Loren (Reid) Christianson of Richfield; grandchildren, Ashley (Adam) Freyholtz of New York Mills, Michael (Katy) Moen of Sebeka, Sarah (William) Astle of Henning, Amber (Evyn Booth) Moen of Phoenix, AZ, Andrew, Jonathan, Peter, Katie and Maria Steinbach all of Elizabeth, Novalee and Syrus Biittner-Rheault of Fergus Falls, and Oden, Hugh and Adeline Christianson of Richfield; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie and Nathaniel Freyholtz, Elsie and Louie Moen and Luke Astle; sister, Kathleen (Paul) Thompson of Fargo, ND; brothers, Clarence Rheault of Fargo, ND and Louis (Cindy) Rheault of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters-in-law, Doris Rheault of Fargo, ND, Mary Jane (Mark) Sprouse of Fergus Falls, Lee Ann (Lou) Sudbeck of Dalton, Marta Biittner of Clitherall, Tricia (Gary) Sarff of Lakeville; brothers-in-law, Jean (Sue) Biittner of Sioux Falls, SD, Dan Biittner of Barnum, Tim (Faye) Biittner of Osakis, Steve Biittner of Emmetsburg, IA, and Bill Biittner of Sioux Falls, SD; aunts, Cecilia Kvande of Grand Forks, ND and Delores Larson of Hillsboro, ND; uncle Alphonse Rheault of Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
Celebration of Life Service: 6:30 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, followed by a lunch at the funeral home.
Clergy: Father Bob Keiffer
Interment: St. Benedict Cemetery, Horace, ND to be held at a later date.
