Gary Arnold Neumann, 71, of Fergus Falls, died suddenly Monday, June 16, 2014 at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
He was born April 6, 1943, in Fergus Falls, the only child of Arnold and Goldie (Lee) Neumann. He grew up on a farm south of Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1961.
He married Janet Mortell in 1964 and to that union seven children were born.
After attending Lakeland College in Wisconsin, he served seven years in the Minnesota National Guard, worked for Tradehome Shoes and Sears, and later owned and operated the North Star service station and restaurant in Fergus Falls. In 1969 he began a 17 year career with the Fergus Falls Police Department. After obtaining his real estate broker's license, he opened Agate Realty, which he operated for several years. In 1988 he founded West Central Abstracting in partnership with his sons Jay and Ryan, and took great pride in serving his clients and forming lasting relationships with other professionals in the title industry.
Gary greatly enjoyed stock car racing, both driving and attending races, fishing, trips to area casinos with his friends, classic cars and convertibles, attending auctions, following the Minnesota Vikings, spending time with his grandchildren, and working at his farm in Dane Prairie Township.
He is survived by his children, Jay (Kirsten) Neumann, Kelly Neumann, Ryan Neumann, April Neumann, Erin (Rodney) Neumann Votava, and Tyler (MarcyLynn Christine) Neumann; nine grandchildren, Kristine, Robert, Lauren, and Andrew Zengeler, Sawyer, Avery, Landon, and Keaton Votava, and Eric Neumann; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kyle Neumann, in 2010.
A time to visit with Gary’s family will be held from 4-7 pm Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
