Frieda Mittelstadt

Frieda Mittelstadt, 90, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, October 18, 2007, at her home in the Mill Street Residence. Frieda Martha Mittelstadt was born on February 21, 1917 in Breckenridge, MN the daughter of Ernest and Minnie (Thymian) Hugli. She grew up on a farm near Breckenridge attending country school nearby. In 1935 she graduated from the Fergus Falls High School. For several years she worked for the Victor Lundeen family as a nanny and housekeeper. On November 13, 1943 she married Verner Mittelstadt in the EUB Church (which is now Church of Peace United Methodist) in Fergus Falls. The couple made their home on the Mittelstadt family farm in Lawrence Township of Grant County. They moved to town in the early 1970's where they were involved in a variety of activities and services including Meals on Wheels and were always willing to lend a helping hand. Over the years she has belonged to the Church of Peace where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Women's Groups. In addition she was a member of the Quilters Guild and enjoyed the time spent there working and in fellowship. Her hobbies included gardening, baking and cooking, tatting and reading. She is survived by four children: Joyce (Clifford) Swift of Fergus Falls, Marilyn (Patrick) Darcy of Plymouth, MN, Esther Vollbrecht of Moorhead and Robert (Jan) Mittelstadt of Campbell; numerous grand, great and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Harold) Schoening of Fergus Falls; and 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Smith of Fergus Falls, Sally Mittelstadt of Indiana, and June (Wayne) Hess of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Greg Wittig, a son-in-law, Richard Vollbrecht, and two brothers, Frank and Walter. Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Church of Peace United Methodist in Fergus Falls Clergy: Reverend Terry Tilton Burial: Knollwood Memorial Gardens Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls Memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls.
