Francis “Frank” Edward Dowzak, 83, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, November 17, 2014, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
He was born on August 15, 1931 in Wahpeton, ND to Edward and Catherine (Kloeppel) Dowzak. He attended school in Wahpeton and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1949.
Frank married Carol Yell in 1950 in Fergus Falls. To this union, three sons were born.
On August 13, 1982 Frank married Shirley Swiontek in St. Paul.
Frank worked for the State of Minnesota for over 40 years. First at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center and later transferred to the State Fire Marshal’s office. He retired in June of 1990. He also worked for Ted Schoening’s Construction Co. and Ringdahl Ambulance as a driver and EMT. After his retirement, he worked for Nelson Ford delivering vehicles.
He loved watching his grandson, Tysen, play hockey. Frank also enjoyed deer hunting, camping and being the ambulance attendant at the races in Brainerd. In his younger years, he enjoyed stock car racing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Catherine; step-mother, Alice Dowzak; four brothers, Tom, Jerry, Stanley and Bob.
Frank is survived by his wife Shirley of Fergus Falls; three sons, Tom (Becky) Dowzak of Minneapolis, Steve (Connie) Dowzak of Lakeville, Scott (Kim) Dowzak of Fergus Falls; step-children, Kevin (Karla) Swiontek of Fergus Falls, Kay (Steve) Anderson of Fergus Falls; 13 grandchildren and numerous and well-loved great-grandchildren; brother, William (Joy) Dowzak of Otsego.
