Floyd Marvin Duenow, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at his home under the care of Lakeland Hospice. He was born November 26, 1924, at home in Friberg Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Frances (Richter) Duenow. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Friberg Township. He attended a rural school, and then Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1942. He entered the U. S. Army in 1942, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On May 2, 1948, he married Verna Mae Anderson at St. John Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. Floyd worked hauling milk for local farmers, and then started hauling grain long distance. He owned and operated Duenow’s Trucking and Garage. After selling the business, he sold Mack trucks and worked for Hi Tech Express as a dispatcher, and later at Golden Ring Trucking as Safety Director. He retired due to his health in 2001. Floyd was a charter member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as President, Vice-president, and church council member. He was also a member of the Fergus Falls VFW. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, traveling, watching sporting events, and visiting with children, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, and grandparents; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Helen Duenow; a sister-in-law, Leone Backstrom; and brothers-in-law, Floyd Kohlhase and Verlyn Haiby. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Verna Mae Duenow of Fergus Falls; two daughters, Susan (Paul) Melby of Brookings, SD, and Teresa (Clair) Chapman of Sartell, MN; one son, Tim (Beth) Duenow of Fergus Falls; seven grandchildren: Jason (Cheryl) Melby of Brookings, SD, Staci Melby of Rochester, MN, Jeremy and Joseph (Nikki Hennen) Chapman of St. Cloud, Alissa (Luke) Voorhees of Fergus Falls, Lindsay (Ryan Palm) Duenow of Edina, MN, and Aaron (Amanda Kisor) Duenow of Fergus Falls; five great-grandchildren: Timothy and Elizabeth Melby, Simon Voorhees, and Rylin and Ayla Palm; a sister, Delilah (Richard) Norman; and two brothers, Melvin (Deloris) Duenow and Ray (Edythe) Duenow, all of Fergus Falls. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
