Florence C. Skow, 89, died at her residence on August 5, 2024 following a courageous battle with kidney disease.
She was born April 25, 1935 in Hastings, MN, to the late Christian and Catherine (Therres) Palm.
Florence was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings and attended St. Boniface Parochial School. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1953. She worked at the Hastings State Hospital as a stenographer from 1953 until 1959. She was elected as secretary for the hospital union # 16, and also served as secretary for the State Council Six for many years.
On November 14, 1959 she united in marriage to Carroll I. Skow at St. Boniface Church in Hastings. They then moved to Fergus Falls and she began working as bookkeeper for Farm Credit Services from 1962 until retirement in 1990. Following that, she worked as part time bookkeeper at Hegstad Oil Co., and also worked part-time at Westridge Mall. For many years she worked as an election judge for Otter Tail County and School District 544.
Florence was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls until 1998, at which time she joined Hope Lutheran Church. At Hope Lutheran she served on the Church Council, Auditing Committee, Altar Committee, and did various volunteer activities for the church. She belonged to the Women of Hope and worked as a substitute for the church secretary in the office. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Senior Citizen Center in Fergus Falls. Her hobbies included knitting, crafting, sewing, quilting, playing cards, oil painting, dominoes and doing puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family members and family pets.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Linda (Wm.) Furda, McDonald, PA; and Nancy Skow, Castle Pines, CO; She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by husband Carroll in 1990, four brothers, and five sisters.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Olson Funeral and Cremation Chapel of Fergus Falls with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Clergy: Allen Westby, S.A.M.
Interment: Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
