Fern Eleanor Dahl, age 93, of Fergus Falls died Saturday morning February 2nd, 2008 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born on January 23, 1915 in Friberg Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota the daughter of Ellsworth and Lucy (Kugler) Olds. Fern was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Synod faith. As a child she attended school at District #159 and then continued to work on the family farm. On May 3, 1934 she married Bennie Dahl at Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple resided in Maplewood Township in a log home and then purchased a farm in Friberg Township. For a time Fern cooked for the road crew that Bennie worked on. The couple then purchased a resort in Friberg Township near Schmidt's bridge which they operated for 16 years before moving to Aurdal Township where they made their home until Bennie died in 1990. Fern became a resident of Goldenwood where she lived for 13 years until moving to the Pioneer Retirement Community in 2003 where she has resided ever since. She was member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Aid and Circle. She also participated in the area Resort Association. Throughout the years she has enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and the Minnesota Twins. Fern will be remembered for her feisty spirit and outgoing personality and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellsworth and Lucy; her husband, Bennie on March 2, 1990; two sisters, Evelyn Stensrud and Ermal Wirtjes; as well as a step-brother, Melvin Stensrud. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara (Donald) Hanson of Fergus Falls and Eldora (Ronald) Monson of rural Fergus Falls; five grandchildren, Kevin (Nancy) Hanson of Bemidji, Kyle Hanson of St. Cloud, Trever Monson of Fargo, Tyler (Kirsten) Monson of Fergus Falls, and Troy Monson of Minneapolis; seven great grandchildren, Erin, Alexandra, and Zakariah Hanson and Abby, Noah, Eli and Aaron Monson, and a sister, Arlette Swenson of Alexandria, MN along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and again an hour before services at the Church. Services: Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm in Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
