Fern J. Brandt, 88, a resident of the Broen Home in Fergus Falls and formerly of Rothsay, died Sunday, February 17, 2013.
She was born May 3, 1924 at Vienna, South Dakota the daughter of Gilbert and Grace (Engebretson) Rund. She attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from high school in 1943. She worked at the S & L Department Store in Fergus Falls before her marriage.
On June 1, 1946 she married Glenn Brandt. They lived on the family farm in Meadows Township where they raised their family. She was a member of New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay where she participated in circle and the ladies aid group, and was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Fern enjoyed baking many delicious caramel rolls, cookies, buns, and cakes from scratch. Lunch was served each afternoon with her homemade goodies and plenty of hot coffee. She kept the milkers, bulk tank and milk room clean, and mowed the lawn. She loved to dance, and singing with her sisters was always an enjoyable activity. Her children, grandchildren and two great-granddaughters were always a joy to her. She accompanied her husband on trips for Soil Conservation and they spent winters in Arizona.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Glenn, and three sisters and brothers-in law: Vernette and Earl Evenson, Irene and Dale Brandt, and Kathryn and Gerald Thiel.
Survivors include her children, Alan (Mary) Brandt of Rothsay, Sharon (Wesley) Nelson of Ashby, and Steven Brandt of Palm Springs, CA; four grandchildren: Lisa Brandt, Fargo, Gregory Brandt, Fargo, Heidi (Dan) Johnson, Ashby, and Kelly Nelson, Minneapolis; two great granddaughters, Emily and Alyssa Johnson; one sister, Joan (Kenny) Rogers, Almena, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the New Life Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Visitation: 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church
Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2013, at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay MN

Interment: Hamar Cemetery, rural Rothsay, Minnesota
