Evelyn (Mrs. Baldwin) Hanson, 98, formerly of the Battle Lake and Underwood area, died Saturday June 14, 2008, at the Pioneer Retirement Center in Fergus Falls, where she has resided since October 2001. She was born October 4, 1909, in Aastad Township of Otter Tail County, the daughter of Ole and Hulda (Ness) Bergerud. She was baptized and confirmed at Aastad Lutheran Church. Evelyn grew up in Aastad Township, attending school at District #119. She worked in the area prior to her marriage. On November 6, 1938, she married Baldwin “Bob” Hanson at the Aastad-Rock Prairie parsonage. The couple farmed for Tilford Christopherson. In 1939 they moved to a farm near Underwood. In 1956 they moved to a farm southwest of Battle Lake, residing there until 1984 when they settled in Underwood. Evelyn loved cooking, baking, sewing, farm work, and sewing patchwork quilts. She was known to be an avid listener of The Morning Watch radio program and gospel music. Her family was so important to her and she found great joy with spending time with her grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters: Signe, who died as a young woman, Gunda Sumstad, Olive Demmer, and Hazel Claunch; and a brother, Morris. Survivors include her husband, Bob, of Fergus Falls; four daughters: Sandy (Sonny) Tjaden of Fergus Falls, Shirley (Jerry) Budke of Green Bay, WI, Joyce (Jerry) Sholberg of Escondido, CA, and Linda Wiese of Fergus Falls; five sons: James (Gail) Hanson of Hancock, Jerry (Ruby) Hanson of Fergus Falls, Rodney (Ruth) Hanson of Benbrook, TX, Steve (Sherry) Hanson of Ottertail, and Daniel (Sohm) Hanson of Moreno Valley, CA; 24 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Finkelson and Elaine Olson, both of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
