Evelyn Hagen

Evelyn Martha Hagen, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Pioneer Senior Cottages in Fergus Falls. She was born October 15, 1924, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Mathilda Borchardt. She grew up in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School. On May 29, 1943 she married Wilbur Hagen in Chicago, Illinois. After Wilbur returned from serving in the Navy during World War II they purchased the Village Market in Campbell, Minnesota, which they operated until retiring from the grocery business in 1982. In 1990 they moved to Fergus Falls. In February of 2009 she entered the Pioneer Cottages. Evelyn was active in golf leagues in the Wahpeton and Fergus Falls area for many years. She enjoyed visiting with many people on her daily walks. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she participated in their Stephen’s Ministry program and also Love Day. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Wilbur, in 2007, two brothers, Clarence and Alvin, and an infant grandson. Survivors include two sons: Brian Hagen of Richardson, TX, and Bruce (Diane) Hagen of Barnesville, MN; four grandsons: Matthew (Joleen) Hagen of Valley City, ND, Brent (Charity) Hagen of St. Paul, MN, Kyle (Ashleigh) Hagen of Torrance, CA, and Ben Hagen of Minneapolis, MN; and three great-grandchildren: Blake, Brynn, and Brody of Valley City, ND. Also surviving is her sister, Adeline Stenstad of Fergus Falls. Memorials are preferred to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Stephen’s Ministry.
