Evelyn “Evie” Harriet Gonderman, 96, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was born February 26, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Ramsey) Tobin. She grew up in Chicago, and then moved to Twin Valley, Minnesota.
On her 21st birthday, February 26, 1938, she married Alvin Erickson in Twin Valley. They resided there where they farmed in the area. Later they operated a shoe repair business in several cities, including Cloquet, Duluth, Grand Forks, Wadena, McIntosh, and Fergus Falls. Alvin passed away in 1970.
On September 11, 1971, she married Carl Gonderman in Moorhead. The couple lived in Moorhead, later moving to Watertown SD for five years, where they purchased a shoe repair business, calling it “Carl’s Shoe Repair”. They later moved to Wadena where they continued to operate the business. They retired in the mid 1990’s and moved to Fergus Falls. Carl passed away in 2010. Evelyn most recently resided at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
She was a member of the Wadena VFW, and also served as a Foster Grandparent for 30 years.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, dancing, listening to music, crafting, and sewing. She will be remembered for her telling of stories and her great sense of humor. She enjoyed her family and was a spiritual person.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Alvin Erickson and Carl Gonderman; her daughter, Arleen Fenske; two sons, Alvin “Tubby” Erickson and Thomas Erickson; a son-in-law, Donald Fenske; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Erickson.
Survivors include three daughters: Marcy (George) Wendling of Leonard ND, Mary (Jerry) Johnson of Fergus Falls, and Jackie (Dwight) Nelson of Monroe WA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Service: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home Chapel in Fergus Falls

Interment: Immanuel Cemetery in Twin Valley, Minnesota
