Evelyn Mae Fabian, 94, of Alcott Manor in Fergus Falls, died on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Evelyn was born January 28, 1916, in Lawrence Township in Grant County, the oldest of five daughters of Walter and Della (Bullis) Ash. She grew up and attended school in Lawrence Township and Fergus Falls High School. She completed teacher’s training in Fergus Falls and taught for a short time. On June 16, 1939, she married Jim Reeser at the Lawrence Presbyterian Church. They made their first home in Elbow Lake. In 1941 they moved to Inglewood, California where Jim and his two brothers worked for the Douglas Aircraft Plant. They returned to the Wendell area in 1943, and later that year moved to Spokane, Washington where Jim served in the U.S. Army at Fort George Wright. In 1946 they returned to Wendell and in July to Fergus Falls. She raised their four girls while Jim worked for Kilde’s Body Shop and then Super GMC. After Jim developed Parkinson’s disease, she completed training and then worked first as a Ward Clerk and later as a Psych Tech at the Drug Dependency Rehabilitation Center in Fergus Falls. After fifteen years of service she retired to care for her husband until his death in 1990. In January of 1992 she married Edward Fabian, who preceded her in death in 1997. In 2001 she moved to the Sheridan House, and then in 2004 to Alcott Manor where she brightened the spirits of all those around her. Evelyn has been a member of Church of Peace in Fergus Falls since 1946, was a leader and co-founder of the City Slickers 4-H Club, and has been an active member of Habitat for Humanity of Fergus Falls. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, two infant sons, Allen James and William Allen, and one sister, Edna Rodman. Survivors include four daughters, Bonnie (Rich) Straight of Fergus Falls, Carolyn “Kelly” (Murle) Dossett of Anderson, Indiana, Kathleen “Kitty” (Paul) Rund of Fergus Falls, and Eileen “Lee” (Lee) Meyers of Deer Creek, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Heidi Seibert of Afton, Minnesota, Todd (Robin) Hultman of Anderson, Indiana, Jason (Melissa) Rund of Fergus Falls, Kirsten Poynter and her fiancé Tony Mullins of Versailles, Indiana, Mira (Kurt) Manselle of Deer Creek, Minnesota, Darin (Jessica) Meyers of Deer Creek, Minnesota, and Meghan (Lee) Syndergaard of Hopkins, Minnesota; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Winifred (Kenneth) Clambey of Fergus Falls, Florence Fafrowicz of Mora, Minnesota, and Alice (Alvin “Bud”) Gehrke of Fergus Falls; brother-in-law, Henry “Hank” (Pearl) Reeser; sister-in-law, Ida Mae Fabian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
