Evelyn Devorak

Evelyn Devorak, age 80, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, December 7, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born August 7, 1929, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Warsecka) Opatz. She grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating from high school in 1947. In her youth she worked at the movie theatre and at Montgomery Wards.   She also attended the Fergus Falls Community College. On February 4, 1950, she married Joseph “Joe” Devorak at the church parsonage in Battle Lake. After their marriage the couple resided in Fergus Falls. She later worked as a chemical dependency counselor for the Halfway House in Fergus Falls. Evelyn was a member of The Federated Church, AA, and served on the Halfway House board. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting some of the area casinos and gambling, crossword puzzles, and being in the sun tanning. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joe, in 2004; a brother, John Stewart; two brothers-in-law, Al Spranger and Robert Juhl; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Stewart and Floreen Stewart; two nephews, Scott Opatz and Matthew Opatz; and a great-nephew, Adam Juhl. Survivors include her children: Debra Jo (Mike) Nelson of Dilworth, Timothy (Margaret) Devorak of Pine River, Thomas (Mariko) Devorak of Fargo, and Joseph (Angel) Devorak Jr. of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren: Mike (Sarah) Liljestrand Jr., Nicole Nelson, William Devorak, Mary Devorak, Joseph Devorak IV, Adam Devorak, Emma Devorak, and Hayden Devorak; a great-grandson, Zacharyah Liljestrand; four sisters: Janet (Edward) Haller, Leona (Joseph) Lackner, Delphine Spranger, and Mary Ann Juhl; three brothers: Marcus (Gloria) Opatz, Raymond Stewart, and Joseph Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.
