Evelyn “Evie” Corliss, 88, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday July 1, 2008, at her residence under the care of Lakeland Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, and her children. She was born August 16, 1919 in Elizabeth, Minnesota, the youngest child of Henry and Clara (Wedll) Spies. During her childhood her family moved to Fergus Falls, and she graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1937. She worked at Service Food in Fergus Falls and then worked in Sauk Centre with the mentally handicapped for several years. On January 23, 1954, she married Donald John Corliss at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. They had two children. She worked for School District #544 for 12 years with the mentally handicapped, retiring in 1988. Evie has been a longtime active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Her interests included her family, gardening, and reading. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Donald; two brothers, Cyril and George Spies; and a niece, Mary Gail Coleman. Survivors include her children, Mary (Michael) Lalla of Wyoming, Minnesota, and Michael Corliss of Fergus Falls; two grandchildren, Amy Lalla and Kevin Lalla of Wyoming, MN; a sister, Emily (Merle) Scott of Fergus Falls; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Spies of Grand Forks, ND, and Laura Spies of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday with 6:30 p.m. parish prayers and rosary at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
