Evaline Marie Wasvick, 94, of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
She was born on January 30, 1921, in Jamestown, ND, to Paul and Dagmar (Christensen) Smith. Evaline attended elementary school and high school in Glyndon, where she graduated in 1939. After high school, she worked for the family business, Smith’s Hotel, Restaurant and Grocery in Glyndon.
On July 2, 1941, she married Delmar Wasvick in Moorhead, MN. They made their home on a farm near Wyndmere, ND. In 1955, Evaline and Delmar purchased and operated Shady Point Resort on Long Lake, in rural Fergus Falls, MN. Throughout the years, Evaline worked at Norby’s, J.C. Penney’s, Big Chief Restaurant and other businesses in Fergus Falls. The couple also farmed near Dalton, where they raised cattle and grew many crops.
Evaline spent twenty-five years with the Foster Grandparent program for the State of Minnesota, happily caring for hundreds of children in the Fergus Falls area. She was a very devoted wife, spending many years caring for Delmar after he suffered a serious stroke.
Evaline had a fondness and knack for many crafts and sewing projects, which she continued throughout her life. She was admired for the beautiful flowers that she grew and remembered for her love of adoring cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dagmar Smith; her husband, Delmar Wasvick; a brother, John M. Smith; and a sister-in-law, Orpha Smith.
Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Patrick P. Smith of Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
Her family and friends are very blessed by the memory of Evaline Marie Smith Wasvick.
