Esther Lillian Ugstad, 93, died Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at PioneerCare, Fergus Falls.
She was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920, in Aastad Township, rural Fergus Falls, to Hans and Hilda (Ongstad) Bergerud. Being born on Easter Sunday, her family named her after the Easter Lilly. Her 90th birthday in 2010, marked only the fourth time her birthday was celebrated on Easter Sunday during her lifetime. Esther was baptized and confirmed at Aastad Lutheran Church.
Growing up on a farm, she attended a rural country school through eighth grade. To continue her education, she lived with a doctor’s family in Fergus Falls serving as live-in help while attending high school. She graduated in 1938 and was then employed at the Scott Store in downtown Fergus Falls.
