Esther Schneider (Schachtschneider), 96, a resident of Dalton, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at her home.
Esther Minnie Emelia Schneider was born on February 2, 1919 in Dane Prairie Township, Otter Tail County, the daughter of Erick and Lydia (Hoffman) Dahlke. She attended country school District #43, and later worked for families around the area doing housework and caring for children.
On April 24, 1943 she was united in marriage to Alfred Schachtschneider at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Fergus Falls. Alfred and Esther farmed in Dane Prairie Township. They farmed until Alfred’s death in 1975. Esther then moved to her home in Dalton in 1976.
Esther was a lifelong member of First United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls. Through the years, she enjoyed crocheting, and gardening, especially in the rose garden in Dalton. She was a bird watcher and loved feeding the birds and animals around the yard.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Erick and Lydia; husband, Alfred; brother, Walter Dahlke and her sister, Emma Nelson.
She is survived by her daughter, BettyAnn Hegland of Dalton; sister, Myrtle Harles of Eugene, OR; numerous nieces and nephews and her longtime companion, her cat, Talcum.
Memorials are preferred to the Audubon Society.
A celebratory gathering honoring her life will be scheduled in the future.
Interment: First United Church of Christ Cemetery, Fergus Falls
