Esther Mortensen, 99, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, June 5, 2022. She was born to Charles and Anna Drews (Schachtschneider) on April 11, 1923, and grew up on their family farm along with 9 brothers and sisters. She graduated Fergus Falls High School in 1941. Following her graduation, she worked for the Soil Conservation Office. It was there that she met Carlton Mortensen, the love of her life.
On September 26, 1943, she married Carlton and they had 3 children together. Esther had a very full family life raising her children, was an active member at her church, supporting her husband and his work, and being involved in the American Legion. Eventually, she was blessed with five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren that she happily showed she cared through a well-stocked fridge and home-cooked meals. Her favorite hobbies included being involved in church activities and creative interests of sewing, crafting, and designing greeting cards on the computer. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and would entertain others by playing many polka songs on her father’s accordion. Esther was known to go the extra mile to make a person feel very special. She impressed people with her insightfulness and wit, and spoke up for what she thought was right.
Esther is survived by: daughter, Estelle Meyer of Oro Valley, AZ; son, Wayne Mortensen of Champlin, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Alison) Meyer, Mark (Denise) Jacobson, Stephen Jacobson, Seth (Dorothy) Meyer, and Wendy (Joel) Nelson; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Carter, William, Carley, Katherine, Tanner, Samantha, Lucas, and Liam; brother, Gerald (Lorraine)Drews; sister, Annlyne Larson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
