Estelle "Stella" Amundson

Estelle (Stella) J. Amundson, 83, a resident of Henning, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at her home.

Stella was born on August 29, 1930 in Hope, ND, the daughter of Stewart and Stella (Whitmore) Smith. She graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1948.

On June 21, 1948 she married Duane Amundson in Henning. Stella spent her years as a dedicated and hardworking housewife, caring for her husband and their four children.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Stella was a wonderful golfer and enjoyed going out and playing with friends. Even at 80 years old she could beat most of the younger people on the course. It seemed like every time she came home from a tournament she had taken first place. She was a family oriented person and enjoyed a visit from any of her children. She loved to cook and always seemed to be in the kitchen, making a variety of wonderful recipes. Stella enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles and thoroughly enjoyed whipping her husband in a good game of Scrabble, when she could convince him to play.

On September 12, 2011, Stella had a series of strokes which left her immobilized. Even during her last couple of years of her life, she touched many others with her humor and zest for life. There were certainly a lot of four letter words that came out of her mouth (most of them directed at her husband), but it was who she was and her terms of endearment. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She will be missed and loved always.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Hall Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Duane of Henning; children, Mike (Paula) Amundson of Henning, Janine (John) Johnston of Henning, Carol Amundson of Henning, Patricia (Neil) Hofland of Bowman, ND; grandchildren, Christopher Amundson, Mara Martens, Sam Amundson, Maggie Palmer, Shelly Larson, Caleb Larson, Rachel Larson, Elizabeth Smith, Stewart Amundson, Leslie Hofland; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Alexander, Mitchell and Pierce Martens, Sebastian, Jewels and Drake Amundson, Daniel and Amanda Larson, Asher and Landon Smith, Keisha, Patrick, Jacob and Sarah Larson, Justin Morris; great great-grandson, Aiden Larson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 201 at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Henning, MN. Buffet Luncheon served at Oakwood Supper Club following the service.
