Ernest Alvin “Ernie” Moen, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Ernie was born on August 8, 1926 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Hilda (Halverson) Moen. He attended school at District 161 of Maplewood. After high school he entered the United States Army and served for two years during World War II, stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal – Japan.
He married Dorothy Mark on November 18, 1950 in Fergus Falls, MN. For a time he owned his own gas station – Ernie’s Pure Oil. He worked for over 40 years for Vernon Jenson Overhead Door as a door man.
Ernie was a life member of Fergus Falls V.F.W. Post 612 and American Legion #30, serving for several years on the Memorial Honor Guard and was also a member of Maplewood Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator, under the call letters KØGCK.
Preceding him in death were his parents, grandson, Trevor, brother, Walt, and his mother-in-law, Wilma Mark.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Fergus Falls; children, Diane (Donald) Schreiber of Fergus Falls, Ernie (Debbie) Moen of Cambridge, and John Moen of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Darrell (Tammie) Schreiber of Fergus Falls, Nathan (Marie) Moen of Maple Grove, and Erin (Justin) Weller of Big Lake, MN; great-grandchildren, Devin Schreiber of Fergus Falls, Shania Moen of Fergus Falls, Peyton and Reagan Weller of Big Lake, and Nettie Moen of Maple Grove; brothers, Kenneth of Texas, Harvey (Shirley) of Fergus Falls, Clifford of Fargo, and Lester (Julie) of New Prague; sisters, Helen of Fergus Falls, Faye of California and Pamela (Pius) of Wahpeton.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Interment will be at a later date at Maplewood Lutheran Cemetery
Military Participation: Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 and American Legion Post 30
