Ernest Carlsrud, 90, a resident of Fergus Falls, formerly of Rothsay, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. He was born January 27, 1920, in Wilkin County, Minnesota, the son of Reinhard and Anna (Olson) Carlsrud. He attended country school near his home. Ernest served in the U. S. Army during World War II from January, 1942 to June, 1945, serving in the Algeria – French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Rhineland, and Normandy Campaigns. He received the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and Staff Sargeant and Squad Leader medals for his service to his country. On February 20, 1948, he married Ruth Ernst in Rothsay. He spent his life farming in the Rothsay area. He was a member of Hamar Church in Rothsay. Ernest enjoyed woodworking, and listening to old time country music. He was also a coffee connoisseur, an avid sports fan, and a diehard Minnesota Twins fan. Preceding him in death were his parents and ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Carlsrud, of Fergus Falls; five children: Duane (Karol) Carlsrud of Bloomington, Pat (Dana) Nelson of Rothsay, Nancy (Larry) Dorn of Mission Viejo, CA, Bruce (Kay) Carlsrud of Moorhead, and Vicki (Greg) Bauman of Hickson, ND; 14 grandchildren: Nathan (Stacy) Carlsrud, Anna Cantlon, Chad (Heather) Nelson, Scott (Carol) Nelson, Kelly Nelson, Jesse (Ashley) Dorn, Todd (Bri) Dorn, Dustin Dorn, Joshua Dorn, Macklin, Teagan and Addison Carlsrud, Amity (Jeremy) Johnson, and Tyler (Neima) Bauman; nine great-grandchildren: Maggie, Molly, and Chloe Cantlon, Abby and Reed Johnson, Emerson Nelson, Eman Bauman, and Jordan and Jacob Nehk; a sister, Agnes Wigdahl of Rothsay; a brother, Floyd Carlsrud of Tomika, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
