Erma A. Terway, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. She was born January 16, 1914 in St. Paul, Minnesota, daughter of Carl and Antonette (Varicek) Schmidt. Erma graduated from High School in Tracy, Minnesota. She attended Anker Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She worked at the clinic at Douglas Aircraft Company during World War II. There she met her husband, Vere Terway. They were married on August 11, 1945 in Santa Monica, California. She continued her nursing career at the Fargo Clinic and taught nursing at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, Minnesota. They moved to Lake Seven near Frazee, Minnesota in 1971. Erma continued to work at St. Mary’s Hospital and Nursing Home until her retirement. Many warm winters were spent in Arizona with Vere and other family members. She loved to garden and had a green thumb when it came to plants of any kind. She is preceded in death by her husband Vere; her parents; brothers Charles and Ben Schmidt; sisters Martha Ironside, Olga Grundmyer and Esther Schmidt; and baby daughter Jean Marlene Terway. Erma is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Terway of Portland, OR; her son, Richard (Helen) Terway of Fergus Falls, MN; grandchildren, Krista D. Worley, Jeffrey D. (Tracy) Worley; and great-grandchildren, Kylie and Braden Worley, all of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, MN with Chaplain Harry Olson officiating.
