Emma Seeba

Emma E. Seeba, 100, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. She was born on August 17, 1907, in Friberg Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, one of eight children of Otto and Bertha (Buchholz) Richter. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in west Friberg Township, and attended school at District 66. Her childhood and young adult life were spent in Aurdal Township. On October 17, 1929, she married Roy W. Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived in Fergus Falls and she worked at the DeSota's and the Fergus Falls Cooperative Creamery. One daughter, Viola, was born to this union. In 1941 they moved to a farm on the Jewett Lake Road and lived there until 1961 when they retired to Fergus Falls. During those years she cooked and baked at the Western Restaurant until 1970, and later at the Viking Cafe for many more years where she was known for her baking. Her husband, Roy, died in 1969. In 1975 she married John T. Seeba. They resided in Aurdal Township near Wee Town until she entered the Minnesota Veteran's Home in June of 1999. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years, but in later years attended Stavanger Lutheran Church with John. Emma loved being out working with the public and when at home spent her time gardening and going to Rollag and other threshing events with John. She took great interest and pride in her three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by them. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Roy in 1969, and John in 2005; two brothers, William and Otto Richter; three sisters: Lydia Palmquist, Hattie Enstrom and Hulda Olson-Colwill; and her daughter, Vi Harmon and son-in-law, David L. Johnson. Survivors include her grandchildren: Karen (Michael) Scheidecker of Wausau, WI, Brad (Roberta) Johnson of Globe, AZ, and Kyle (Kristine) Johnson of Apple Valley, MN; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Trent, and Tony Scheidecker, Amy and Scott Johnson, and Evan, Olivia and Lauren Johnson; four great-great-grandchildren: Cody Peterson, James and Brandon Johnson, and Zachary Valdez; sisters, Agnes Halvorson and Myrtle Neumann; her son-in-law, Don Harmon of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews. Additional survivors include her stepchildren, John Seeba Jr., Earl (Nancy) Seeba, and Marilyn Dahl, as well as numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
