Emma Elizabeth Kugler, 96, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born September 29, 1914, in Hill River Township, rural Fosston, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Alma Pearson. She was baptized and confirmed in Asphult Lutheran Church. She attended Oakland rural school near her home and obtained her diploma from Fosston High School. This enabled her to take x-ray training at St. Josephs Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Upon receiving her credits as a certified x-ray technician she worked at Bethesda Hospital in Crookston, MN, Dakota Clinic in Fargo, ND, and the Medical Arts Clinic in St. Paul, MN. On March 9, 1957, she married Leo Kugler of Fergus Falls at the Asphult Lutheran Church in rural Fosston. They operated a dairy farm in Friberg Township near Fergus Falls, MN. Emma went to work as an x-ray technician at the Fergus Falls State Hospital until 1985. In 1978 they sold their farm and moved to Wall Lake. Leo passed away in 1983. Emma continued to reside at Wall Lake until the fall of 2001, when she moved to the Sheridan House Apartments in Fergus Falls, MN. She was an active member of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church after her marriage. She was also a member of the Senior Club, and the State Retirement Association. Preceding her in death were her husband, Leo, her parents, her three brothers, Reuben (Edna), Clarence (Minnie) and Henry (Gladys) Pearson, and a brother-in-law, Herbert (Phyllis) Kugler. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Gladys (Happy) Holstrom of Fergus Falls, and Margaret Weise of Detroit Lakes, as well as several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
