Elwin Wilton Drechsel, 92, a resident of Elizabeth Township, Fergus Falls, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018, at his home on Jewett Lake.
Elwin was born on July 12, 1925, in Elizabeth Township, the son of John C. and Anna (Schierman) Drechsel. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Friberg Township. Elwin served in the United States Navy during WWII.
On April 20, 1947, he married Esther Pergande and together they raised four daughters on the family farm. In 1968, Elwin built their home by Jewett Lake and has resided there until his death.
After leaving the farm, Elwin was a rural mail carrier and continued his woodworking skills in creating furniture, clocks and crosses. He served as Elizabeth Township treasurer for 40 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing up until the last few years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, John, James, and Norman.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; four daughters, Barb (Steve) High of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Ardell Haberer of Kasson, Charlotte (Tim) Renstrom of Braham, and Donna (Lee) Else of Weiser, ID. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Gerry Drechsel.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, with a 5 p.m. public prayer service at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls
