Elsie Richter, 96, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, November 24, 2014, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was born September 6, 1918, in St. Olaf Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Julius and Christine (Peterson) Christopherson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Dalton.
Elsie attended rural School District #9 and graduated from Ashby High School in 1935. She had been employed by Richard’s Treat Bakery and Cafeteria and Strutwear, in Minneapolis, in the 1940s. Later she worked for NW Bell Telephone Co. in Minneapolis for 27 years, retiring in 1973.
On August 1, 1971, she married Herbert Richter. Elsie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Y’s Folks. She enjoyed traveling overseas, and to Alaska and Canada.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Herbert; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Dorothy Christopherson; niece, Ellen Welch; nephews, Duane Haarstad and Dale Christopherson; and stepson, Gale Richter.
Survivors include her sister, Lillian Haarstad of Fergus Falls; a niece, Janice (Mark) Palm of Fergus Falls; stepchildren, Julane Carter of Moorhead, Janet Ruud of Fargo, Judy Johnson of Fergus Falls and Gary (Carol) Richter of Waxahachie, TX; numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Olson Funeral Home Chapel
