Elroy Kenneth Jorgenson, 88, a resident of Rothsay, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Elroy was born on June 4, 1924 in Oscar Township, the son of Erick and Clara (Ouren) Jorgenson. He grew up on the family farm, attended school at District 122 and also helped his father on the farm.
He served in the United States Army from October 17, 1944 until December of 1946, serving two years in Japan and the Philippines.
On June 4, 1949 he married Dorothy Weik at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay. The couple resided near Carlisle and later moved to Rothsay. In 1951, Elroy began his employment with Rothsay Farmer’s Oil Company, where he delivered bulk oil for over 40 years.
He was a member of New Life Lutheran Church, served as a volunteer fireman in Rothsay for over 20 years, serving as chief for several years, and was also a member of the Eagles and Fergus Falls V. F. W. He enjoyed fishing, sports, especially baseball, dancing, and playing pinnacle, whist or anything that dealt with a deck of cards. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a special relationship with Sid Rasmusson and the two of them enjoyed teasing each other about their age and Elroy always trying to catch up to Sid.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Stuart Jorgenson; sister, Sylvia Hanneman; brothers, Harley, Edward and Gaylen.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Rothsay; five children, Linda (Don) Christianson of Dent, Bruce Jorgenson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mark (Kathy) Jorgenson of Newfolden, Brian Jorgenson of Parker, Colorado, Beth (Reiny) Melchior of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Corey (Carla) Moen, Stacey (Matt) Mitchell, Lisa (Jim) Rieber, Kyle (Cassie) Christianson, Alicia (Steven) Booth, Aaron Jorgenson, Eric Jorgenson, Melissa (Andy) Bjorgaard, Brooke Jorgenson, Keesha Jorgenson, Tyler (Heather) Melchior, Holly (Nate) Hurtado; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Hanneman of Fergus Falls, Gloria (Delain) Miller of Fergus Falls, three sisters-in-law, Ethelyn Jorgenson of rural Fergus Falls, Gwen Jorgenson of Rothsay and Doris Jorgenson of Rothsay, along with numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay, MN
