Ellen Mae Schoon

Ellen Mae Hasse Schoon, 83, a resident of rural Underwood, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.

She was born at home in Lake Park, Iowa on April 24, 1934, to Christian and Verna (Meyerdirk) Sorensen. Ellen attended Graceville High School and then attended Teacher training at Moorhead State.

On June 28, 1953, she married Norbert Hasse. They farmed near Wheaton, MN for a number of years. In 1967 they moved to the Underwood area where they raised their family. Ellen worked for many years as a teachers aid in the Underwood Public School system. Norbert died in April of 2000. On July 26, 2003, Ellen was wed to Ervin Schoon.

Ellen was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church of rural Underwood. Her family was very important to her, as well as her church family. Ellen enjoyed quilting, gardening, and her grandkids.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Christian and Verna Sorensen; her first husband, Norbert; and great-granddaughter, Shyanne Jacobs.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Ervin; children, Deb (Larry) Holden of Moorhead, Sharon (Joe) Adams of Brainerd, Rick (Betty) Hasse of rural Wheaton, Sandy (Greg) Adkins of rural Underwood, Randy (Diane) Hasse of rural Pelican Rapids, Lori (Ken) Wilke of Albert Lea, Dr. Rob (Deb) Hasse of Davenport, ND, Roger (Wendy) Schoon of rural Underwood, Tracey (Mark) Schoening of rural Underwood; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; siblings Pauline (Wally) Johnson rural Wheaton, Harvey (Esther) Sorensen rural Wheaton, Shirley Arneson of Havana, ND, Carol (Paul) Ekberg of rural Wheaton, Marily (Dave) Haack of rural Hoffman; and brothers-in-law, Harlan Hasse of Peoria, IL, and Gary Hasse of Fargo, ND.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018, with sharing and prayers at 6:30 with Pastor Mark Johnson, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018, Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Underwood, MN

Interment: Messiah Lutheran Church Cemetery
