Eleanor Josephine Halvorson, 88, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. She was born August 7, 1918, in Lignite, ND, the daughter of Jennie (Siegle) and Martin Knutson. As an infant the family moved to Fergus Falls, where she attended school. Her mother later married Henry Winter, and together they raised four children. On December 31, 1941, she married Harvey Halvorson at the Methodist parsonage in Fergus Falls. They made their home in Fergus Falls. Over the years Eleanor occasionally worked outside the home at a variety of jobs, but primarily she enjoyed being home for her family and raising her children. Eleanor was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, the VFW and Eagles Auxiliaries, and loved being a member of the VFW Auxiliary Drill Team. She will be remembered as a warm and loving person who always wanted to help others. Eleanor enjoyed being with family and friends, spending time singing, canning, cooking and baking, and was known for her big hugs and smiles. Preceding her in death were her husband, Harvey, in 1995; her sister, Evelyn McNulty; and three brothers: Marvin, Kenneth and Willis Knutson. Survivors include two daughters: Carolyn (Alan) Lunde and JoAnn (Dan) Prischmann, of Fergus Falls; one son, Clinton (Anne) Halvorson, Fergus Falls; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service,and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
