Elaine Miriam Schoening, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
She was born on August 13, 1933, at home in Donnelly, MN, the daughter of Julius and Florence (Feelhaver) Sperr. Elaine was baptized at United Methodist Church in Herman, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1951. After high school she worked as a medical office assistant in Fergus Falls.
On October 3, 1953, she married Robert Schoening at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Fergus Falls township where Elaine resided until December 2016.
Elaine served on the Fergus Falls township board as clerk for 36 years, Treasurer at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was an avid gardener and was famous for her dill pickles. She also enjoyed being involved in various community organizations.
Grandma Toots loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bob in 2006; in-laws, Irving Jandt, Eldon Rund, and Harold and Mary Schoening.
Surviving family includes her three daughters, Vicki (Jim Manley) Schoening of Alexandria, Lori (Harry) Krog of Underwood, Kathi (Marc) Budke of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Joe Manley, Adam (Ashley) Krog, Andy (Brittany) Krog, Peter (Kaila) Krog, Cary (Mary) Budke, Kyle (Angela) Budke, Joseph (Carly) Budke, and Kayla (Jarred) Grindahl; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Elijah, Ezra, Iris, Paxton, Beckham, and Henry Krog, Olivia, Lola, William, Molly and Elayna Budke; siblings, Shirley Jandt, James (Ethel) Sperr, Jean Rund and Donna (Norman) Schoening; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation: 3-6 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
