Elaine Lucille Fossan, 88, died Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Broen Home.
Elaine was born April 13, 1928 at Wrights Memorial Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN to William E. and Bertha M. (Albertson) Rieken. She was the oldest of 4 children. She graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1948. She worked at the Rondstad Restaurant in Battle Lake and St. Lukes Hospital in Fergus Falls. She married Bernard Fossan June 6, 1951, in the home of Rev. M. J. Berge in Fergus Falls. They honeymooned in Duluth, MN, before moving to Dalton, MN and remained on the Fossan farm until 2007, when they moved to Ashby, MN.
Elaine was a Sunday School teacher for 20 years at Kvam Free Lutheran Church of rural Dalton, while raising 8 children. She worked at the regional treatment center in Fergus Falls for 15 years.
She enjoyed gardening, loving her flowers, active in church with quilting, ladies aide, sewing circle, and also very active in the Ashby Senior Center and going to Bible study.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bernard, son Bradley and his wife Karla, granddaughter, Tracy; sister, LaVilla Nelson; her brother, Willard Rieken; sons-in-law, Randy Hetland, and Lyle Narveson.
She is survived by her children: Valerie (special friend, Larry); Sidney (Jody); Shannon (Cynthia); Renae (special friend, Kelly); Yvonne; Robert (Sheila), Paul; her grandchildren: Betty (Mark) Decker, Kollyn (Jeff) Malecha, Cirissa (Burton) Afonja, Ashley (Jason) Foradory, Emily Fossan, Benjamin (Leslie) Hetland, Bradley Hetland, Waylon Fossan, Dakota Fossan, Megan Fossan, Tyler Peterson; her great-grandchildren: Damian (Grace) Narveson, Alexander Decker, John Decker, Alyssa Malecha, Jaylin Fossan, Grace Foradory, Faith Foradory, Hope Foradory, Ezekiel Afonja, Xavier Afonja, and her brother, Dale (Janice) Rieken, sisters-in-law, Artis Rieken and Norma Kittleson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2016 at the funeral home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2016 at Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church, Dalton, MN
