Edythe Eleanor Wiley, 100, a resident of Fergus Falls, formerly of Rochester, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Broen Memorial Home. She was born on March 28, 1908 in Brickton, MN, the daughter of Fredrick and Louella (McCue) Bach. Edythe’s mother died in the swine flu epidemic of 1918 and she and her siblings were placed in foster homes with relatives. In 1928 she married Robert L. Wiley in Elk River. They resided in Minneapolis, where Robert worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. They later moved to Austin and subsequently to Rochester in December 1959, where Robert retired in 1974. Edythe enjoyed gardening, trips to Alaska and spending time at the family cabin on Stalker Lake near Dalton. She was an excellent cook and delighted in family with meals of roasted wild duck, breaded pork chops, macaroni and cheese, meatballs, gigantic stacks of pancakes and cornmeal mush, all cooked on an old Monarch wood stove. She was a kind and nurturing mother, who worked hard to teach her five children core human values and beliefs. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Robert, who died in January of 1985; her oldest son, Robert Eugene, who died in October of 1981; two brothers: Joseph and Earl and three sisters, Dorothy, Lorraine and Bernice. Survivors include her daughter, Nadine Herder of Eagan; sons, Warren (Donna) Wiley of Dalton; Eugene (Janet) Wiley of Dalton; Kenneth Wiley of Underwood and Silvia May of Illinois; five grandchildren, Brian (Jody) Wiley of Champlin, Robert (Kristy) Wiley of Eden Prairie; Brandon (Nicole) Wiley of Zimmerman; James (Beth) Herder of New Prague and Todd (Jessa) Herder of Lakeville; and ten great-grandchildren, Brianna, Amber, Samantha, Matthew, Megan, Kyla, Mara and Kiera Wiley and Luke and Riley Herder all from the Twin Cities area.
