Edwin Leo Thompson, 91, a resident of rural Fergus Falls, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born August 23, 1919, at the family farm east of Underwood, Minnesota, the son of Julius and Lyla (Washek) Thompson. He grew up on the farm, attending school in Underwood. On March 30, 1945, he married Birdella Weinrich in Underwood. The couple purchased a farm in Dane Prairie Township, rural Fergus Falls, where he farmed and continued to reside up to the time of his death. Edwin loved music, polka dancing, antique tractors, threshermen’s groups, sawmilling, and was an avid Ham “WBØRCW” operator. As a younger man he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also the weed inspector, constable, and drove road patrol. Edwin was known for tinkering, and had a great talent for fixing things. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Birdella, in 2005; and one brother, Joslyn. Survivors include two sons, Larry Thompson of Fergus Falls, and Dale (Brenda) Thompson of Underwood; one daughter, Susan (Mike) Zurn of Blaine, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Stephanie Crotteau, Chris Zurn, Tyler Thompson, Trudy Goodspeed, Breta Danielson, and Jay Thompson; 14 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Allison, Jake, Kaitlyn, Luke, Ethan, Kristin, Torie, Macie, Joshua, Carter, Aubree, Lucille, and James; a brother, Maurice (Myrt) Thompson of Underwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
