Dr. Edward Earl Schmidt, age 61, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, from complications after a routine surgery, at St. Francis Healthcare in Breckenridge, MN.
He was born March 9, 1954, in Watertown, SD, the son of Harold E. and Phyllis J. (Maas) Schmidt. He attended school in Underwood, graduating in 1972 and then went on to earn his PhD in Neuropsychology from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, in 1984.
In 1976, he was united in marriage to Mary Kathryn Schwinden in Moorhead. He was employed at Lakeland Mental Health Center, Fergus Falls, as a Neuropsychologist/Clinical Forensic Psychologist since 1984.
Dr. Edward Schmidt held diplomat status in Forensic and Neuropsychological services. He was licensed as an IFR and VFR pilot, the sky was his joy. He also continually fished for the biggest fish at West Battle Lake at his getaway cottage.
His father, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Fergus Falls; his mother, Phyllis Osander; stepfather, Byron Osander; siblings, Jolene Osander, Darlene Fortune, Butch Schmidt, and Bonnie Wolff. He also leaves all the loving, caring professionals at Lakeland Mental Health Center. All of us will dearly miss him so very much. My life with Ed was the most exciting adventure that one could have ever imagined.
Private family services will be held.
