Edward "Ed" Thornberg

Edward "Ed" Thornberg, 84, formerly of Fergus Falls, died April 9, 2025, at Saint Therese of Oxbow Lake in Brooklyn Park.

Ed was born October 6, 1940, to Edwin and Frances (Solberg) Thornberg in Fergus Falls. He attended Elbow Lake Public School graduating in 1958. Furthering his education at North Dakota State College of Science, he earned an Accounting Degree in 1962.

Ed served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965 serving at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fergus Falls, MN. He received the Expert Rifle Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Five-Year Service Medal.

On June 25, 1961, Ed married the love of his life, Nancy Nelson, in Fergus Falls at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Ed was employed in the banking industry in various roles and locations, Norwest Bank in Fergus Falls, Silver Bay, Two Harbors and Duluth. He then was employed at First National Bank in Fergus Falls as Vice President and later became President of First National Bank in Dalton.

In retirement, Ed loved to travel with Nancy. They took numerous bus tours, a Panama Canal cruise and a trip to Norway and Sweden. Family was very important to Ed. He loved having his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren visit them in Maple Grove and going to their homes to visit. Ed enjoyed wood working and golf.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #30 of Fergus Falls, Jaycees, Lions, Rotary Club and Elks.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Holbeck; sister-in-law, Rosalie Lankford; and brothers-in-law, Jim Wolff, Jim Parsley, Gary Stephenson and Gene Lankford.

Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy Thornberg of Brooklyn Park; children, Tammy (Drew) Holbeck of Brooklyn Park and Mark (Nancy) of Rogers; grandchildren, Brianna (Jared) Lee, Alyssa (Sam) Xiong, Pierce Holbeck and Bailey Thornberg; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Hannah Lee and baby girl Xiong coming in July; sister, Karol Wolff; brother, Jon (Julie) Thornberg; sister-in-law, Carol Stephenson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bethlehem Foundation Fund.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Clergy: Reverend Loren Mellum

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls
