Edna Ruth Davis

Edna Ruth Peterson Davis, age 93, formerly of Aurdal Township, died Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Minnesota State Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

Edna was born November 10, 1922, at home and grew up in Aurdal Township, Otter Tail County the daughter of Alfred and Ruth (Chell) Peterson. Her mother died when she was two years old. She was raised by her aunt Ida and uncle Albert Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Tingvold Lutheran Church, Underwood.

She moved to Seattle, WA, where she met Leonard “Gene” Davis when his ship returned to Seattle for repairs after the Pearl Harbor attack. They were married April 10, 1943 in Sedro Wooley.

They moved to San Diego and Philadelphia to follow where Gene’s ship was based. They returned to Fergus Falls after Gene was discharged from the Navy. They moved to the little farm where she was raised and then to their place on Fish Lake until she moved to the cottages of PioneerCare and in 2012 to the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls.

She loved gardening, sewing, baking, and cooking. Her children remember her roasting black bird that Dave hunted and frying frog legs until she said, “No more, they eat insects!” She helped with 4-H projects and loved horses from a distance. Ladies Aid or just coffee with friends and all who would stop by. She raised hundreds of chickens to butcher and sell and would fry up a roaster full for weekend company in case they didn’t get fish or whatever they were hunting. Edna loved fishing or just going around the lake on a pontoon.

Edna was preceded in death by brothers Alvin Peterson, Jack Peterson, Calvin Peterson and John Peterson; one sister, Lucille Peterson; a step-brother, Alf Peterson and a step-sister, Van Della Nugent, grandson, James Lee; and son-in-law, Jon Pollack.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Davis; her children, David (Rolene) Davis, Ruthy (Gary) Kugler, Renie Pollack, and Mitch (Vi) Davis; grandchildren:, Dee (Gordy) Granrath, Jeff (Mandy) Davis, Leon (Steph) Kugler, Casey (Susan) Kugler, Melissa (Rob) Larson, John Pollack and Andy Pollack, Stacy (Jason) Wiczek; Eugene (Kate) Davis; Nicole (Nic) Beck; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wendell Peterson of Montevideo and a sister, Elizabeth (Doug) Easterlund of Sartell, sister-in-law, Winnifred Peterson of El Paso, TX; Pamela Peterson of Big Lake and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Olson Funeral Home
Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11:00 AM on Friday, September 23, 2016, at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
Clergy: Reverend Ben Hosch
Interment: Stavanger Cemetery in Fergus Falls
