Edith Peterson

Edith C. Peterson, 85, a resident of the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born May 24, 1922, in Palisade, Aitkin County, Minnesota, the daughter of Axel and Brita Eng. She attended school in Fleming and graduated from Aitkin High School in 1940. She was baptized in the Methodist Church, and confirmed in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. On November 29, 1945, she married LuVerne C. Peterson in the Fleming Methodist Church in Aitkin. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Cloquet, Minnesota. In 1952 they moved to East Lake, Minnesota where they farmed, and in 1966 they moved to Fergus Falls. She was employed at Victor Lundeens and the Holiday Inn. After retirement she and LuVerne wintered in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Edith was a past member of the East Lake Ladies Aid, served on many committees of the church, and taught Sunday school. She was currently a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Oscar Eng; her husband, LuVerne in 1992; and her son-in-law, Dennis Melaas. Survivors include her daughter, LuRae Melaas (Mike Stras) of Underwood; her son, Clayton (Sherri) Peterson of Erhard; grandchildren: Sarah (Chris) Syverson of Fargo, Tim (Brittany Zahler) Peterson of Clearwater, Becky (Brian) Beckius of Buffalo; two great-grandchildren, Ellen and Victor; two sisters, Ellen Eng and Louise Eng, both of Aitkin; and numerous foster children. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls Clergy:      Reverend Craig Palach Prayer Service: 1 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, at Fleming Methodist Church in Aitkin Interment: Monday at Fleming Lake Cemetery, rural Aitkin Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
