Earl Sund

Earl Kermit Sund, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was born January 27, 1920, on the farm in Stony Brook Township near Wendell, Minnesota, the son of Henry G. and Lilly (Dybdal) Sund. He grew up in the area, attending country school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 – 1945. On November 10, 1948, he married Margaret Staff in Fergus Falls. Over the years he was employed at the CCC Camps, and with Tysver Nurseries. He later worked for the John Dieseth Company as a part of the road building crew, and was a milk hauler for a time. He then worked at the Fergus Falls State Hospital for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW and First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Earl enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, summers at Big Pine Lake, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, David, in April of 2006, a sister, Glenice Hanneman, an infant sister, Ruth, and two brothers, Lourn Sund and George Sund. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sund of Fergus Falls; three children: Brad Sund (special friend Sandy Odegaard) of Fergus Falls, Tom (Sue) Sund of Audubon, MN, and Elizabeth (Terry) Sund Christ of Hunter, ND; seven grandchildren: Shawn Christ, Dawn Schroeder, Kathryn Hermanson, Amy Neumann, Matthew Sund, Angela Johnson, and Amber Sund; seven great-grandchildren: Gage Hermanson, Wyatt Hermanson, Emily Christ, Jacob Christ, Zachary Christ, Lilli Johnson, and Lucille Schroeder; a brother, Russell Sund of Osakis, MN; three sisters: Helen Bunkowske of Helena, MT, Marjorie Iverson of Fergus Falls, and Ethel Koebnick of Stewart, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls Clergy: Reverends Roger Hanson and Saul Stensvaag Interment: First Lutheran North Cemetery, Fergus Falls Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements
