Earl Edwin Ames, Jr., 92, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Park Gardens in Fergus Falls.
Earl was born on July 9, 1924, to Earl Edwin, Sr. and Myrtle (Borne) Ames in St. Louis Park, MN. He attended grade school there and graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1942. In October 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II in the South Pacific, Japan, New Guinea, Layte, Luzon and The Philippines. Earl was discharged on January 10, 1946, and received a Combat Medic Badge, A Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, and The Purple Heart for his service to his country.
On June 10, 1950, Earl was united in marriage to Anna May Seeba in St. Louis Park, MN. Earl was employed by the American Motor Company for thirty-five years, as a parts distribution manager of the North-West Region. He retired from A.M.C. in 1981, and then worked as a van driver for the St. Louis Park Bus Company.
Earl was a past noble at the St. Louis Park IDOF Lodge, a member of the St. Louis Park American Legion Post #282 for sixty-nine years, a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a lifetime member of Fergus Falls VFW Post #612, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post #25 and was a member of the St. Louis Park Lions Club for many years.
Earl enjoyed fishing, photography and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl, Sr. and Myrtle Ames; and a sister, Evelyn Ames.
Earl is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Anna May Ames of Fergus Falls; a son, Lance Ames of Underwood; a daughter, Cheryl (Kelsey) Dehn of Eagan; four grandchildren, Ronnie Ames, Carrie Ames, Brian Dehn and Casey Dehn; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Earl Ames, Madison May Wynn and Carter Daniel Wynn.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Olson Funeral Home, with a public prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
