Duane L. Anderson, 77, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his home.
He was born November 22, 1935, at home in Carlisle Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the son of Carl L. and Olga (Kittleson) Anderson. He went to school at District 96 for eight years, and then attended high school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1953.
He entered the U.S. Army in November of 1953, with basic training at Ft. Riley, Kansas. In April, 1954 he was sent to Japan. In July of 1956 he was sent to Korea. He returned to the U.S. in March of 1957 to Ft. Benning, GA. He was discharged in May of 1958 at Ft. Bragg NC.
Duane remained in the south following his discharge, living in Georgia and South Carolina, and finally in Tennessee, working as an electrician. It was there he met his first wife, Patricia. They were married in 1968, and he had three stepchildren, Sheila, Jeffrey and Angela. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1974 and were divorced in 1984.
He married Shirley Charboneau Holweger in 1985, and added four more stepchildren to his family, Perry, Scott, Susan and Paulette.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Clarence Anderson, his sister, Arlene Bordson, a stepdaughter, Paulette Thorson, and one step-granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Fergus Falls; his stepchildren, Perry, Susan, Scott, Sheila, Jeff and Angela; a sister-in-law, Verna Anderson; a brother-in-law, Burnett Bordson; ten step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial service: 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
