Douglas Alan Noyes, age 78, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, passed away on February 3, 2025. Born on April 16, 1946, in Moorhead, Minnesota, to Russell Milton Noyes and Etta Grace Cook, Doug lived a life marked by service, dedication to family, and an unwavering positive spirit.
A 1964 graduate of Barnesville High School, where he was active in basketball and football, Doug went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Moorhead State College in 1968. Shortly after graduation, he married his beloved Margaret Louise Andstrom on June 1, 1968, at Augustana Lutheran Church.
Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed in San Diego, California, and Millington, Tennessee. Following his military service, he built a successful 30-year career with GMAC, working across North Dakota, South Dakota, and Illinois before retiring in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2001. After retirement, Doug and Margaret returned to her hometown of Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Throughout his life, Doug was known for his infectious smile, optimistic outlook, and genuine love for others. He was an active community member, serving with the American Legion, Lions Club, as a police commissioner, and in the Jaycees. Doug found joy in life's simple pleasures - tending to his garden, camping with family, golfing with friends, and embarking on road trips to explore historical sites and museums. His enthusiasm for strategy games, puzzles, and outdoor activities like sledding and fishing reflected his playful spirit and zest for life.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents, Russell and Etta Noyes; brothers, Robert and DelRay Noyes; sister, Jaquline Buth; brothers-in-law, Robert Andstrom, Harry Buth, Clayton Ishaug and Michael Lyman.
He is survived by his five children: Elizabeth Noyes of Rogers, Minnesota; James (Donna) Noyes of Ellicott City, Maryland; Ericka (Steve) Hogue of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; Brittany (Billy) Harding of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and Wendy (Eric) Lindstrom of Prior Lake, Minnesota. He also leaves behind fourteen beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Valerie) Loftus, Jakob Heibel, Aden, Kira, Natalie, and Alaina Noyes, Brady, Jared, Karlee, and Landon Hogue, Amelia and Ryland Harding, and Lauren and Lindsay Lindstrom; one great-granddaughter, Bria Margaret Loftus; siblings, Loretta Ishaug of Pelican Rapids, MN, David (Rinae) Noyes of Fergus Falls, MN, Thomas (Joyce) Noyes of Fergus Falls, MN, and Linda Lyman of Dilworth, MN; sister-in-law, Carol Andstrom; and friends, Jim Pittinger of Fergus Falls, MN and EJ Messa of Dalton, MN.
Doug's cheerful personality, dependable nature, and dedication to family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, optimism, and genuine care for others will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
