Douglas Eugene Nelson, 60, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016, surrounded by loved ones at his home in rural Underwood.
Douglas was born April 21, 1956, to Donald Eugene Nelson and Louise Amelia (Listrom) Nelson in Breckenridge.
He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1974. During high school he worked at the Daily News, following the family tradition of printing. After high school he worked full-time at the County Press in Wahpeton along-side his dad.
Doug’s love of nature took him to the mountains of Montana where he lived for a couple of years before moving back to West Fargo, ND, to be closer to family. Doug was employed at Davon Press in West Fargo.
It was while living in West Fargo that he met Camille Louise Hanson. Doug and Camille were married on December 16, 1986, in Fargo, ND. Following their marriage they moved to the Battle Lake area and Doug started working for Schmitty’s Plumbing and Heating of Wahpeton. Doug finished his work career with the Fergus Falls School District, first as a custodian and then as the Head Grounds Keeper. He took great pride in maintaining all the sports fields and gymnasiums and enjoyed his interactions with all the students.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Louise (Listrom) Nelson; an infant brother, Bruce Donald Nelson; Camille’s parents, Donald and Maxine (Brauer) Hanson; and son-in-law Dr. Sameh Karaz.
Doug is survived by his wife, Camille of Underwood; children: Lisa Guy of Underwood, Sarah Karaz (Eisa Khoury) of Denver, Co., Rebecca (Narcis) Tudor of Telluride, Co.; grandchildren: Brandon, Breyahna and Braden Guy, Sophia Karaz, Justus and Lawlis Tudor; siblings: Jacque (Dave) Forsythe, Valerie (Diane) Nelson Gira, Sherry (Barry) Rapp-Day, Scott Nelson, and Chad (Marchell) Nelson.
