Douglas W. Lorentzen, age 78, of Fergus Falls, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.

He was born on July 12, 1934, at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Walter and Lillian (Pelkey) Lorentzen. After graduating from Chaska High School, he entered the United States Navy and served as a corpsman.

He married Monica Reiser on February 12, 1958, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Wayzata, Minnesota. They raised five children and devoted their lives to them.

For most of Doug’s employment years, he worked in sales and water energy. Upon retirement, he and Monica moved to Fergus Falls where Doug drove bus for Productive Alternatives and Ottertail Coaches. He loved cheering on the various sports teams and was a true Otter fan.

Doug served as Commander of the American Legion in Hamel, MN, and was an active member of the American Legion in Millerville, MN. He served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, was on the Parish Pastoral Council and served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at St. George Catholic Church in Long Lake, MN. Doug’s Catholic faith was important to him and he shared that faith with his family and friends.

Doug enjoyed coaching his children’s softball, baseball and football teams, fishing, bowling, watching the Twins and the Vikings, spending time with his grandchildren and playing cards. His grandchildren are all great cribbage players because of his love of the game.
