Dorwin Hansen, 79, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. He was born November 27, 1931, in Valley City, ND, the son of Jens and Alice (Anderson) Hansen. Dorwin graduated High School near Dazey, ND and in 1953 he graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead with honors and received his Master’s Degree in Clinical Speech Therapy at NDSU. On, May 19, 1954, he married Loralee Henning at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. Dorwin served in the military in Korea, while Loralee taught school in Dassel, MN. Upon return, Dorwin taught in Dassel, MN. In 1957, they moved to Fergus Falls where he was a speech pathologist for a several years. He relished his 33 years teaching, everyone’s favorite subject, English, at Fergus Falls Senior High. Dorwin was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, his life work and second love was teaching. His passion, energy, knowledge and impact will be felt for generations. Finding the best in all he met, encouraging the light to shine in each life he encounters for a brief moment or long friendships. Dorwin was loved by so many. He belonged to three bridge groups, and enjoyed reading, travel, gardening, and wood-working , but most of all time with his family and visiting with former students and hearing their life stories after high school. Preceding him in death were his wife, Loralee (Henning) Hansen, his parents; a brother, Allen Hansen; a brother, Lorenzo Hansen; and sister-in-law, Marie Miller and her husband, Roy; brother-in-law, Victor Henning. Survivors include a son, Timothy, his wife Cris (Shaker) Hansen and their children, Owen and Anna of Minneapolis; a daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Steve Bourgault and their children Rachel and Kathryn of Fargo; a son, Jed, his wife Heidi Busse-Hansen and their children Lenore and Oakes of Mankato; a sister-in-law, Ethel Hansen of Dacono, CO; a sister-in-law, Nancy Henning, Ft. Collins, CO; a sister-in-law, Beverly and her husband Bob Peterson of Bismarck, ND, along with many nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to WELCA of First Lutheran Church.
