Dorothy Rae Stowman was born to Omer and Pauline (Sorum) Stowman in Fergus Falls on February 26, 1959. She went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the age of 58, after several years of declining health. She lived with family all her life in and near Rothsay--first with her parents and then with the Paul Stowman family for her last 9 years when her mother could no longer care for her.
God created Dorothy perfectly with Down Syndrome. Though she could not speak, she made friends everywhere and richly blessed those with whom she came in contact.
Dorothy attended school in Pelican Rapids and Fergus Falls before becoming a part of Productive Alternatives where she shredded paper, folded towels, and more. She enjoyed riding the bus back and forth. She was also a big part of her church family at Rothsay Baptist.
Caregivers, of whom she had many, were special friends.
Some of Dorothy's favorite things were birthday parties, music, food, Lawrence Welk, games and puzzles, thick books, read aloud time, family gatherings, time at the lake, balloons, individual attention, and snuggling.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers, David (Judy) Stowman of Detroit Lakes, Wayne (Gerri) Stowman of Jensen Beach, FL, Paul (Mary) Stowman of Rothsay, and sister Dawn (Dwight) Lysne of Willmington, NC; 18 nephews and nieces; 13 great-nephews and nieces; and uncle and aunt Dean and Carol Sorum of Moorhead, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Pauline Stowman; and infant sister, Mary Ellen.
