Dorothy H. Sorensen, 88, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls. She was born November 14, 1919, in Cicero, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Nina (Stenstrom) Anderson. She grew up in Illinois, graduating from Morton High School in Berwyn, IL. In her early years she spent time caring for her nephew, McKay. During her childhood Dorothy would spend her summers with her Grandma and Grandpa Stenstrom on their small farm outside of Elizabeth, MN. After her grandparents passed away, Dorothy continued to come to Minnesota for the summer, and that is where she met her future husband, Abe. On July 21, 1949, she married Albert “Abe” Sorensen in Cicero, Illinois. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Fergus Falls. Dorothy worked for JC Penney and the Andrews & Meister Drug Store. Together Dorothy and Abe built a cottage on Long Lake. On January 14, 2004, she entered the Minnesota Veterans Home. Dorothy was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and also volunteered at the Pioneer Home for several years. She enjoyed cross-stitching, sewing, reading, and spending time at the cottage. During her time at the Veteran’s Home she thoroughly enjoyed all the musical entertainment. Preceding her in death were her parents, and a brother, Roy. Survivors include her husband, Albert “Abe” Sorensen of Fergus Falls; two nephews, McKay Anderson of Kansas City, MO, and Todd Anderson of Scottsdale, AZ; two nieces, Starr Conrad and Jill Claxton, both of Kansas City; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Anderson of Kansas City. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
