Dorothy Luella Moody

Dorothy Luella Moody, 95, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.

Dorothy was born on April 10, 1920, in Dalton to Conrad I. and Lizzie (Clauson) Thompson. She attended school at Dane Prairie School District #81 until eighth grade and then graduated from Fergus Falls High School.

Dorothy started her career in 1939 as a switchboard operator at Northwestern Bell in Fergus Falls. Dorothy’s dedication to her job was evident in a story she told about braving the Blizzard of March 1941 to get back to work in Fergus, from a dance party in Underwood. In 1941, she was transferred to Sacramento, CA, where she met Horace H. Moody. The couple was married in 1946, at Swan Lake Church in Dane Prairie Township. They were married for forty-five years.

The couple moved to Boston, MA, where Dorothy worked for Filene’s Department Store and then for a while they, lived in Chicago, IL, finally settling in Glendale, CA. Dorothy ended her career and retired as a receptionist for American Safety Flight Systems.

After Horace’s passing in 1991, Dorothy continued living in Glendale, until she moved back to her family and roots. She enjoyed residing at the Sheridan House in Fergus Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Lizzie Thompson; her husband, Horace Moody; a sister, Ethel Cowan; a brother, Neil Milo Thompson; and a niece, Michele Cowan.

Dorothy is survived by her brother, Kenneth “Roger” Thompson; her nephews, Mikkel (Per Jonsson) Thompson and Jay (Lynette Viste) Thompson; her niece, Victoria Thompson and her children, Alex Griffin, Tiffany (Augustine Harless) Griffin, and Astred Griffin; her other nieces, Valerie (Anders Persson) Thompson, Bethe (Wayne) Holo and Rebecca Cowan; and sisters-in-law, Grace (Moody) Parker and Florance Thompson.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Broen Home Light and Life Auditorium, Fergus Falls
