Dorothy Kugler

Dorothy Luella Kugler, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.    She was born at home in Western Township of Fergus Falls to August (Swede) and Emily Anderson on November 23, 1920. She was one of 13 children born to August and Emily. She graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls in 1939.   On May 4, 1941 she married Floyd Kugler at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They farmed in rural Aastad Township where she was a homemaker. She was also involved in the local 4-H club and Aastad Lutheran Church. They moved to Pelican Rapids, MN in 1961 where she and Floyd farmed and were employed by the West Central Turkey Plant. They moved to Underwood, MN in 1965 where they lived until Floyd’s retirement in 1983. Dorothy worked at the Fergus Falls Medical Group and then at State Farm Insurance until her retirement in 1985.  In 1983 they moved to their beloved river home south of Fergus Falls.   She loved her flower gardens but more so she loved to just sit and watch the water in “her river”. She loved the peaceful tranquility of it all and never grew tired of it. She and Floyd also loved to have all their grandchildren come and spend time with them each summer. This gave their grandchildren many, many memories to carry them through their whole life. Whenever we came home to visit, it didn’t matter what time of the night we got there, they were always up. And she would always have her special caramel rolls waiting for us. We still wonder how she managed to have them fresh and warm no matter what time of the night! She will always be remembered for her love towards her family and friends, her smile which could make a bad day good, and that twinkle in her eye. Her faith in God has carried her through the last years which have been a struggle for her. She knew in her heart that God would help her through them and bring her home when it was time.    Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Floyd in 1999; son Steven in 1967; parents August and Emily Anderson; parents-in-law Kate & Carl Kugler; brothers: Jerry Anderson, Jack Anderson and Mike Anderson; sisters: Evelyn Hanson, Mabel Anderson and Marion Anderson; and several in-laws: Arnold Hanson, Carl Hanson, Sherman Ferguson, Irene Anderson, Doey Anderson, Ole Olson, Gordy Peterson, Maurice Kugler, Ervin Strande, Clarence Shultz, and Forrest (Spot) Kugler.  Dorothy is survived by two children: Allen (Diana) Kugler of Lakeville, MN and Vicki (Bruce) Junge of Fergus Falls, MN;   five grandchildren:   Kelly Kugler of Bloomington, MN, Lance (Marnee) Kugler of Somerset, WI, Lesley Nielsen of Fergus Falls, MN, Ben (Desta) Sillerud of Fergus Falls, MN, and Molly (Chad) Lappegaard of Hawley, MN;   five great-grandchildren: Andrew, Ethan and Addison Sillerud, and Hayden and Grace Lappegaard;   siblings:  Pat Anderson of Fergus Falls, MN, Helen Hanson of Benson, MN, Alice Ferguson of Fergus Falls, MN, Hazel Olson of Albuquerque, NM and Lucy Peterson (Jim Clark) of Vancouver, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.  Visitation:  5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
