Dorothy Myrtle Dohrer, 89, a resident of Fergus Falls, formerly of Elizabeth, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls. Dorothy was born on June 2, 1922 in Elizabeth Township, the daughter of William and Emma (Muhlenbeck) Kroll. She grew up and attended country school in Elizabeth, MN. On September 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond Dohrer in Elizabeth, MN. The couple farmed together near Rothsay from 1941 to 1981. They moved to Elizabeth in 1981 upon retirement. Raymond passed away on February 1, 2003 and Dorothy moved to Fergus Falls in 2007. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and also participated in 4-H and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, playing cards, dancing and entertaining her family. She was always concerned about other people and never wanted to inconvenience anyone. She had a huge heart and taught her family to love and appreciate everything they were given. Her biggest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she would light up when they came to visit. Dorothy loved having fun and teasing. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Raymond; son Peter; daughter-in-law, Jane Dohrer; brother, Everett Kroll; sisters, Viola Orndorff, Myrtle Boese, Beatrice Weiss, and Charlotte Boese; sisters-in-law, Mabel Roberson, and Florence Tiede; granddaughter, Nancy Hanson; and great-granddaughter, Jamie Dohrer. Survivors include six children, Harvey Dohrer of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, Yvonne Hanson of Fergus Falls, Elaine (David) Tomhave of Battle Lake, Carolyn Erickson of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, Juneal (Greg) Green of Rothsay, and Paula (Keith) Grunewald of Elizabeth; daughter-in-law, Vicki (Mike) Lahlum of Detroit Lakes; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sibling, LaVerne Hanson of Pelican Rapids, sister-in-law, Harriet (George) Whitfield of Carlsbad, CA, brother-in-law, Wilmar Tiede of Columbia Heights; and numerous nieces and nephews.
